Who’s Really Unaccountable?
I received this email supporting a petition that urges Congress to audit the Defense Department. Naturally, holding Congress responsible for military spending is a cause I can readily get behind. Our so-called “Defense” spending is out of control — what with a never-ending, expanding field of war and a bloated, increasingly paranoid spying culture.

But will auditing our military spending really, get at the heart of the matter?
The petition was sent by The Daily Kos, a left-leaning news and activist platform that, from my perspective, feeds into the left-vs-right farce that keeps the people of this country at odds with ourselves, and distracted from seeing who’s behind the curtain, pulling the strings of this divide and conquer strategy. The Daily Kos was motivated to action by a Reuters article entitled UNNACOUNTABLE: The High Cost of the Pentagon’s Bad Bookkeeping. And the Kos’ action blames Republicans for forcing “America into the slowest economic recovery in history thanks to austerity policies focused on cutting vital services for working families while shielding the Pentagon from any non-sequester cuts.”
For Reuters to send that article out on the wire made me scratch my head. Reuters certainly isn’t a bastion of independent thought. Rather, it’s one of the singular sources that helps franchise out a particular view of current events to smaller news sources around the world. Reuters is an important part of shaping the modern reality. And the result of that article — in an atmosphere where Republican congresspeople seem to always be threatening government social spending — fuels a battle among American people between those who want government to spend its money on social services and those who want government to spend its money on the military.
Nevermind the folks who think it ought to be unconstitutional for the United States government to borrow all of this money in the first place via a 100-year-old Federal Reserve counterfeiting scheme. Bill Still reports on this issue eloquently and succinctly.
The Federal Reserve, its charter banks and those who drive the policies of those banks ought to be at the top of anybody’s accountability To-Do list.

Ukraine’s Genocide
Holodomor is a visceral documentary that exposes the genocidal tactics used by the Bolsheviks against Ukrainians, the worst of which occurred during a 17-month period between the years 1931-32. Many millions of Ukrainians died as a result of Soviet collectivization and confiscation. The communist state basically stole from the Ukrainian people all of their farms and their property — reorganizing agricultural production into a less productive communal system, and then funneled the fruits of the peoples’ labor to the heart of Mother Russia. Eventually the Bolsheviks began going house to house in the Ukraine, as well, confiscating whatever grains the Ukrainian villagers managed to store, leaving the population at large to simply starve to death.
During the worst of it, the Ukrainian village streets were littered with dead bodies. People resorted to cannibalism. And when entire villages were wiped clean, the Soviets would send in Russian farmers to re-populate the towns.
One of the more stunning aspects of this genocidal program is how similar the Bolshevik tactic of alienating and dehumanizing the Ukrainians was to the Nazi tactic of alienating and dehumanizing the Jews during roughly the same period of time. And what’s even more striking is the resemblance of those same policies to the executive actions and legislation being enacted by our own government today to alienate and dehumanize those pegged as “enemy combatants.”
These similarities suggest something more than simple coincidence. It suggests that the ideological source of these population control programs — enforced by fascists, communists and capitalists alike — stems from a singular root.
